Artist Statement
Amber Evans is an amateur photographer known for her eye for capturing nature at its finest and urban landscapes at their middling best. She has taken course work or workshops in stained glass, ceramic and mosaic, as well as spent the COVID lockdown cranking out personal essay and memoir in the local adult school’s zoom classes, plus she has read original works in two shows of ekphrastic poems and written in three ekphrastic workshops.
She has managed the City of Emeryville’s Public Art Program for 11 years including solicitations for art capital projects, the Purchase Award program, Sharon Wilchar Bus Shelter Art Program, Emeryville Mural program, and Visual Art Grants. Ms. Evans managed the commission of the Emeryville Public Art Master Plan, Poet Laureate Program, and manages the Rotten City Cultural District.
Ms. Evans has a Masters in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley and a BA in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz. She has worked for the City of Emeryville for 13 years and has enjoyed discovering Emeryville’s hidden gems, whether the mosaic in the intersection’s asphalt, an wooden caterpillar maker’s workshop behind a rollup door, a garden trellis in the center of the artist coop or the over 300 pieces of public art throughout the City.
