Artist Statement
Begin by applying material to unstretched canvas, balance is unimportant, discards flung onto the floor, add stuff, pause, consider status moving around table, angle surface, avoid injurious body contortions getting on and off the table, fold surface, arrest surface movement, working surface is secured and shimmed level. Next day, utterly dry, continue work by other means. As a friend once said, break a tool, to make a tool. He was no longer a welcome residing transient guest. "You've covered most of the floor with paint," and later he soldered radio shack parts in an assembled sculpture while burning parts of the floor.
Recurring dream. I see our dog out of our cottage window moving naturally through the trees. He knows we're here. We don't call him. He must be forty by now.
