Creating Art has always been an important part of my life. My fourth-grade art teacher selected me to take a class for gifted students at the Detroit Institute of Art. There I was encouraged to create pictures based on viewing art throughout the museum. I continued attending these Saturday morning art classes all through middle and high school. They provided me with the foundation for a lifetime of appreciation for and desire to create visual art.
I earned a B.A in History and Art History at The University of Michigan and supported myself by becoming an inner-city teacher. My elementary teaching experience has been in Ann Arbor, Chicago, New York, and Oakland. Throughout my teaching career, I continued to paint. After school and during summer breaks I studied art with classes at The School of Visual Arts in New York, Maryland Institute of Painting, Royal College of Art in London, Taos Art institute, and The California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.
